BC tidal fishing regulations, one tap
Can I fish here, right now, for what, and how many?
Tap any saltwater spot in British Columbia and get one plain verdict per species: open, closed, or catch and release, with the limit, size, and gear rule attached. Built on real DFO regulations, re-checked hourly through the day, and it keeps working when the signal drops. Freshwater is being tested with the Guide Tier beta group now.
Why you can trust the verdict
Government data in, plain answer out. Nothing invented in between.
Every status, limit, and closure traces back to an official page. When we can't verify something, we say so instead of guessing.
The source is the source
Every rule is pulled from the actual DFO area pages, Fishery Notices, and the BC Freshwater Fishing Regulations Synopsis: read verbatim, never paraphrased or guessed at.
A 5,000+ assertion gate
Before any data refresh ships, it has to pass thousands of automated checks against the official sources. If a check fails, the refresh is rolled back automatically.
Fail-safe, never false-open
When something can't be confidently verified, the app tells you to check the official notice instead of showing a confident "open." A missed trip costs less than a fine or a protected fish.
What's on the map
Everything you'd otherwise cross-reference across six DFO pages.
Saltwater, dialled in
Every DFO area and subarea on the coast, resolved to the spot you tap. Freshwater is in testing with the Guide Tier beta group and ships when it meets the same bar.
Species-level verdicts
Every finfish, salmon, shellfish, crab, prawn, and invertebrate gets its own limit, size, gear rule, and the closures that touch it.
Closures & biotoxin zones
Rockfish conservation areas, glass sponge reefs, biotoxin and sanitary closures, and every named protected area rendered on the map, not buried in a PDF.
Wind, tide, sun and moon
Live conditions for the spot you're looking at, right on the verdict card, so the go / no-go call and the legal call live in one place.
Works offline
Everything needed for the verdict is cached to your device. Out of cell range on the water is the normal case, not the edge case.
Fishery notices, digested
In-season DFO openings and closures are checked hourly through the day and folded into the verdict, with the official notice linked.
Freshwater & stocked lakes
Lakes and rivers on the BC Synopsis, plus FFSBC / GoFishBC stocking reports, are live for Guide Tier testers now and public when they pass the gate.
Don't mistake the fish
Field marks for the dangerous look-alikes, like yelloweye vs. other rockfish, so an honest ID mistake never turns into an illegal retention.
Hourly refresh
Notices, closures, and openings are re-checked hourly from 6am to 9pm Pacific, so the map reflects the same day's regulations DFO does.
Pricing
Priced the way BC licenses already work.
The Province licenses freshwater, DFO licenses tidal. Most anglers hold one, some hold both. The verdict is always free; the premium layers follow the same split, so you only pay for the water you fish. During the private beta, Guide Tier testers get everything at no cost.
